The Utah Jazz is a professional basketball team based in Salt Lake City, Utah. They are currently members of the Northwest Division of the Western Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The team was originally the New Orleans Jazz, but due to owner Sam Battistone's unhappiness in New Orleans (and perhaps his wife's Utah roots), moved to Utah in 1979. Under current Coach Jerry Sloan, the Jazz were one of the most successful teams throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, winning two Western Conference Titles in 1997 and 1998. The Finalist teams were anchored by the combination of point guard John Stockton and power forward Karl Malone and made the playoffs 20 consecutive seasons (behind only the record Portland Trail Blazers' 21-year playoff streak). Malone and Stockton are generally seen as two of the best players in history at their positions and among the best two-player combinations of all time, right behind Houston's Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde "the Glide" Drexler.

'Dick Bavetta at Work' (NBAE/Getty Images) Just the other day I had the opportunity to sit in on media availability with the NBA Officials for their preseason workshop with local media, a sort of PR move by the NBA to show how their ...

It'sa contract year: Will the Jazz improve?
'A Better Boozer?' (NBAE/Getty Images) Jazz fans know this upcoming season is a critical one in the history of the franchise, and it's easy to understand why. Many players on the current roster either have option years after the 2008-09 ...

Andrei Kirilenko's New Role: Coming off the Bench for the Utah Jazz
But it looks like the Utah Jazz will follow New York's unconventional example this season by having its highest-paid player, Andrei Kirilenko, come off the bench. Normally, I'd object to a decision like this. ...

Preseason Game 3… Jazz 93, Blazers 80
Good to see another win. Sadly, it was just the preseason. Don't get me wrong. If this was the regular season, I'd take it. All this “beating them at their best” is utter crap… a win is a win, no matter who is hurt. ...

Recap - Utah Jazz @ Portland Trailblazers
In case you missed it, and of course you missed it because apparently there wasn't a video camera in the place after KJZZ announced they were dumping the game. This likely would have been one of the most watched pre-season games of the ...

Kirilenko Coming off Bench
So apparently Sloan has had AK-47, our highest paid player, come off the bench the past few preseason games. Some of the reasons that both the Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News cite include: 1) Boozer being injured - so they started ...

Utah Jazz: Sloan impressed by Fesenko
PORTLAND, Ore. - Keeping in mind that his first season coaching Kyrylo Fesenko probably felt like a lifetime, Jazz coach Jerry Sloan offered some fitting praise after watching Fesenko finish with 10 points and 10 rebounds in Sunday's ...

Utah Jazz: Kirilenko warms up quickly to new role
PORTLAND, Ore. - There's still 17 days to go until opening night for the Jazz, but the Andrei Kirilenko experiment at sixth man moved a step closer to reality in Sunday's 93-80 preseason victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.
